Special committee formed by the U.S. Congress in recent months to receive various inputs to find ways to overcome the budget deficit and government debt. Of the various proposals, the proposal appears unique: replacing paper money of U.S. $ 1 in the form of coins. According to the daily USA Today, the proposed replacement bills of U.S. $ 1 into the form of coins supported a number of people, ranging from mining companies, manufacturers of vending machines retail, up to manager of public transport. Instead, the paper and ink manufacturers oppose the idea, which actually has become discourse for over 25 years.

"We have experienced a massive deficit. We also have a super committee and Congress are working to find ways to save money," said Jim Kolbe, a former member of Parliament who are supporting the campaign replacement of paper money into coins.

For the short term, measures to replace paper money into coin requires considerable cost.

However, in the end the move would save the budget for the long term. Paper money is seen only lasts for 42 months, but the coins can last forever. According to the U.S. Government Accountability Office, the replacement of paper money into coins could save on a budget of U.S. $ 5.6 billion over 30 years. "Savings like that are not up to raise taxes and cut any programs," said Kolbe.

However, the Committee of Congress should study the proposal further. Consists of 12 members of Congress, the Deficit Reduction Committee or popularly called the Super Committee last August mandated to devise a formula budget savings.

They were given a deadline to 23 November to look at ways to save on the budget of U.S. $ 1.5 trillion. If they fail to reach a decision, then the government must be prepared to receive a massive budget cuts beginning in 2013. This could exacerbate the U.S. economic crisis.
